Cockroach inspired ‘Robot’ for disaster relief

US Researchers from University of of California, Berkeley were inspired by cockroach’s ability to withstand heavy forces and ability to flatten themselves to fit tight spaces. They attributed this to its exoskeleton feature which can be compressed when subjected to heavy force without breaking.

The researchers were able to replicate this feature in a compressible robot with articulated mechanisms, or CRAM. So,we now have a cockroach inspired robot to help save humans trapped in buildings destroyed by storms, earthquakes or terrorism.
